Following the closure of AAFPC, Dr. Waugh continues to offer care through his own private practice. With over 50 years of clinical experience, he remains committed to serving children, adolescents, adults, and families with the same thoughtful and collaborative approach he has offered throughout his career.
Background & Education
Dr. Waugh, originally from Huntington, West Virginia, graduated with honors from Dartmouth College and earned his medical degree from Duke University, where he served as Vice President of the Student Government and President of the AOA Honors Society. He completed his residency and fellowship in Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania, earning two named fellowships, followed by additional training at Emory University.
He also served two years in the U.S. Air Force and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service.

Dr. Waugh specializes in outpatient care for children, adolescents, and families. His clinical interests include:

His treatment approach emphasizes collaboration with parents and families, using a blend of pharmacotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy, and individual psychotherapy. Education and practical guidance are central to his philosophy of care.
Teaching & Leadership
Dr. Waugh has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Emory University’s Child Psychiatry Program, where he taught family therapy and private practice development. He has been an invited speaker for pediatricians, medical groups, and parent organizations, and has participated in national and regional conferences. His professional contributions also include being part of pharmaceutical speakers' bureaus for ADHD medications.
He authored Tired of Yelling: Teaching Our Children to Resolve Conflict (1999) with Letitia Sweitzer, and appeared on Dateline to discuss the book.
Hospital & Organizational Roles
In earlier years, Dr. Waugh played a key role at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, serving as Acting Medical Director and later chairing the Long Range Planning Committee for its Board of Trustees. He has also served on the medical staffs of Scottish Rite and Northside Hospitals and held leadership roles in private practice-focused physician organizations.

Personal Life
Dr. Waugh and his wife, Sherry, have been married for over 55 years. They have two sons, two daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren.
